We are delighted that our very own Anna Sarjantson and Vanessa Johnson-Burgess have been shortlisted for the Women In Business Awards (London and the South region) which will be taking place in London on 16 October 2015. The awards, organised by Forward Ladies are the country’s biggest ever search for successful women in business. There are four regional heats and one national award.
Few people can resist the glitz and glamour of an awards ceremony. Aside from having a legitimate excuse to purchase a new dress, there’s something irresistible about a midday flute of bubbles and the odd canapé. I trivialise, of course. Whilst, we can already taste the champagne (does this show you how long it’s been since we had a night out), there is a really serious side to awards and we cannot say how proud we are that Availexe will be playing a part this year.
We spent some time with Anna and Vanessa discussing how they feel about the awards and being shortlisted this year for the Women in Business Awards…
What did you think when you found out that you had been nominated for the Women In Business Awards?
It sounds a bit of a cliché but we were really surprised. We only founded Availexe in 2014 and it is amazing that our work is already being recognised. We were also really pleased to be part of something that celebrates women, a cause very close to our hearts. They were really keen to find out when we would be going to the Oscars!
How did you feel when you found out that you had been shortlisted for the Women in Business Awards?
We are really proud and honoured to be shortlisted amongst so many fantastic, inspirational women. It’s exciting to be recognised amongst some of the best talent in the region.
What do you think about the Women in Business Awards?
The awards are a brilliant opportunity to meet likeminded, forward thinking individuals who like to challenge convention and provide opportunities for others to do the same. Women in business work really hard and when we are trying to juggle a business with bringing up a family, we can sometimes feel as though we aren’t achieving what we want in any part of our life, so to be part of the awards is a great confidence boost and affirms that what we are doing is the right thing!
What are you looking forward to on the day?
Whatever the result, we are looking forward to spending some quality time with our co-founder Chris Leighton. We have tried to take him shopping to buy a new dress and lipstick but he wasn’t too keen! It is rare that we all get time to get together and so as well as networking, the awards will give us an opportunity to look back at what we have achieved over the last 12 months.
Tell us more about Availexe in your own words?
Availexe enables professional individuals to access quality, relevant project based roles that can be completed from home, or the office if they wish, but on a truly flexible basis.
Why did you decide to set up Availexe?
We founded Availexe to address the huge loss of talent and expertise and are passionate about helping as many women, and men, find their perfect work life balance.
What do you hope to achieve with Availexe?
We are setting out to change the way the world works and being shortlisted for The Forward Ladies Awards is a fantastic step along our exciting journey. We would like to thank everyone for their support and we will only achieve our dreams of enabling everyone to find their perfect work life balance with the help of others.
Thank you ladies. We wish you all the best for October 16th and we look forward to hearing the results. #WIBA15
